Metabolic Phenotyping

Explore metabolic phenotyping services to analyze the metabolic profile of your animal models. Assess key parameters like energy expenditure, glucose metabolism, and lipid profiles with the Mouse Biology Program’s expert phenotyping team.

The MBP is one of four NIH-funded Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Centers offering advanced metabolic assessments for live mice. Our center provides comprehensive insights into metabolism, endocrinology, body composition, thermoregulation, glucoregulation, and food intake behavior—critical for understanding diabetes, obesity, and related disorders.

We offer a comprehensive suite of over 60 assays, including:

  • Metabolism and Energy Expenditure: Using indirect calorimetry (CLAMS), we precisely measure energy expenditure and metabolic function.
  • Gut Microbiome Analysis: Explore how the gut microbiome influences overall metabolic health through detailed analysis.
  • Clinical Chemistry: Comprehensive panels track key metabolic markers and indicators of disease.
  • Gross Body Composition: Assessments of body fat, lean mass, and other vital components allow for accurate tracking of changes in body composition.
  • Surgical Services: Our procedures include the development of bariatric mouse models, supporting obesity and weight-loss studies.

Combining state-of-the-art technology with scientific expertise, our metabolic services deliver the detailed insights needed to advance your research in metabolic disease mechanisms and treatments.
