Custom Breeding and Colony Management

The Mouse Biology Program offers specialized facilities, resources, and a team of skilled colony managers and vivarium staff to support your project’s design and execution.

Our team is ready to discuss your specific mouse breeding needs. Our expert project managers specialize in managing complex breeding schemes, including recombinase breeding for allele modification and generating double and triple mutant lines with intricate genotypes. We have extensive experience handling mutant alleles from significant initiatives like the Knockout Mouse Project (KOMP) and the European Mouse Mutant Archives (EMMA), along with cells from the European Mouse Mutant Cell Repository (EUMMCR) and EUCOMM alleles that parallel KOMP.

We collaborate closely with you and your lab to optimize colony management, minimizing caging requirements while refreshing breeders as needed to preserve genetic integrity.

Efficient Colony Management

Our experienced colony managers maintain your mouse colony to meet your experimental needs. You’ll receive monthly reports, and our MOSAIC colony management system provides 24/7 online access to detailed colony information. Depending on your requirements, 2-3 breeding cages and 6-8 holding cages are typically sufficient for maintaining a strain.

Archiving & Cryopreservation

We offer tailored recommendations for breeding strategies and archiving, ensuring your strains are safeguarded against unexpected loss. Cryopreservation of mutant strains is highly recommended to protect your valuable lines.
