Quarantine Procedures

Safeguarding health and maintaining high standards for incoming mouse strains at the Mouse Biology Program, ensuring the delivery of robust, reliable models for biomedical research.

Maintaining the health and integrity of our mouse colonies is our top priority. We have established rigorous quarantine procedures to protect incoming and existing strains from potential pathogens. These protocols ensure a safe transition for new mice, minimize health risks and maintain the highest research quality standards. By isolating, screening, and monitoring incoming strains, we can uphold a controlled environment essential for accurate and reliable scientific outcomes.

1. Arrival & Isolation:
New mouse strains are housed in separate quarantine facilities immediately upon arrival to prevent potential pathogen spread.

2. Comprehensive Health Screening:
Mice undergo detailed health assessments, including serological testing, to identify pathogens. If necessary, additional tests or treatments are conducted.

3. Observation Period:
Mice are observed for 6-8 weeks to monitor for latent infections or health changes. Daily checks ensure the well-being of each mouse during this period.

4. Release to Main Colony:
Upon passing all health checks, mice are moved to the main facility under controlled conditions to ensure no cross-contamination.

5. Extended Quarantine for High-Risk Strains:
Mice with uncertain health histories or higher risks may require extended quarantine periods and additional testing.

Our procedures ensure the safety of both our mice and research outcomes. For more details, feel free to contact us!
